The Anglican Canons
Our Guiding Principles
The Diocese of Waiapu is governed by a set of guiding principles known as Canons. These are the rules by which we live together as Anglicans, they are the yardstick by which our common life is judged.
Provincial Canons
The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia website sets out the Provincial Canons including Title D. In 2022 the General Synod/Te Hinota Whānui made changes to Title D which are the ministry standard canons of this church. The intention of the changes were to strengthen the Anglican Church's response to allegations of abuse and to provide additional independence to the process to be carried out when complaints about licensed members of the Anglican Church (whether clergy or lay) are made.
Lenten Studies 2026
We are not alone: through Lent with the Saints, the 2026 Lenten study booklet for the Diocese of Waiapu, prepared by Ministry Educator, Rev’d Dr Deborah Broome. This is suitable for both small groups and for individuals to do on their own.
There are six studies, corresponding to the six weeks of Lent. Each of these engages with some aspect of the values and strategic priorities we have here in the Anglican Diocese of Waiapu, with discussion of the week’s theme, Biblical passages, and three or four saints who embody that priority. (For anyone doing these studies who’s not part of our Waiapu whānau: we think they’ll resonate with you anyway, as they lead us deeper into what it is to be one of God’s people in this land.)
