Living Our Strategy Through Hospitality
“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” — Hebrews 13:2
“Radically ordinary hospitality… brings the church to the world instead of expecting the world to come to church.” — Rosaria Butterfield
Hospitality is one of the most powerful tools for the kingdom. Hospitality is not about polished dinners or perfect homes. It’s about opening our tables, our lives, and our hearts so that strangers become neighbours and neighbours become family. In a time when loneliness and isolation are everywhere, the simple act of welcoming someone for a meal or cup of tea becomes a living expression of Hari (joy), Aroha (love), and Rongo (peace).
Tips for Parishes & People
Start Small: Invite one person or family for coffee or a shared meal this month.
Be Real: Your home doesn’t need to be spotless; authenticity matters more than polish.
Make it Habitual: Consider a regular rhythm—one night a week or month for open hospitality.
Hospitality sits at the heart of our diocesan strategy. It builds connection, nurtures discipleship, is true to our whakapapa, and outworks our vocation. Every open door is a reminder that the church is not just a building, but a people living out Faith Giving Life.
