Today the Anglican Communion has celebrated in witnessing the installation of the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev’d and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally. All around our province we rejoice at Archbishop Sarah’s appointment and look forward to the continued connection with See of Canterbury, one of the four instruments of our Anglican Communion. Our Primates, Archbishops Don, Sione and Justin, were all present at the service to represent our province and share in the joy of the celebration. A few weeks ago we remembered the faithful service of one of the first women to be ordained priest in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, the Rev’d Rosemary Russell. Today with the celebration of the installation of the Archbishop Sarah as the first woman to be Archbishop of Canterbury, we can reflect on the many ways in which God has called, and continues to call, women to serve the church in vocations as Deacon, Priest or Bishop. May we celebrate the faithful witness of all women in the church today as we celebrate alongside Archbishop Sarah in this historic moment.

Blessings to you all.
