The Anglican Edge Podcast
The latest episode is out on The Anglican Edge Podcast. I interviewed Merina Foster last week about her community outreach work in Otumoetai. Over the last few years her work has included working with Senior Chef, the toy library, fish and chip clubs with the elderly, plus many more.
Alpha Courses
Have you considered running an Alpha course for your church? I have mentioned this before here but I think it is good to keep waving the flag for it! You may have run this 10 or more years ago but it has continued to grow and improve as a course here in NZ, and people are still signing up for it in our churches.
Taupo has just launched it, which is exciting! Holy Trinity Tauranga started it up again after a big break, and have run three courses in the last three years. They have also just launched a Youth Alpha and have about 12 teenagers on it.
Youth Alpha are teens, which are not related to church, with parents that have never talked about the Christian faith to them. Taradale is also looking to launch it soon, and I thought I would encourage you to look at the website and consider as a church or vestry whether the time is right to give it a go? The main things to consider (that we have been learning) are to advertise well!! Add to Facebook, print some flyers and post them around the parish (I can help you), put a flyer in the local newspaper, have a big sign out in front of the church (we have had people sign up because they walked past the sign). Put a small team together and let them run it, the videos are so good, and makes it very easy to run. Don’t skimp on this by having cake only, or asking people to bring a plate…… bless them with a meal, it creates the right vibe for discussion around the table. Pray lots! You will be amazed at what can happen by running such a simple course in your parish.
