Karakia/Prayer: The Starting Point of Renewal
In seasons of challenge and opportunity, prayer remains the most powerful act a parish can take. It shifts our focus from scarcity to hope, from survival to faithfulness. Smaller parishes, especially, are often surprised by how the intentional practice of prayer softens hearts, opens possibilities, and realigns us to someone and something bigger than ourselves. When we pray, we join in the work God is already doing in our communities.
Action: Explore ways, both as individuals and as a community, to increase the levels of prayer for your parish and your local neighbourhood. For those on Vestry or in other groups that serve within the parish, starting every meeting with a simple Anglican collect, karakia, or a moment of silence, followed by shared prayer, can be a subversive act, inviting God into our work and the hopes of creation and community flourishing.
