The “One Thing”

One of the strongest themes to come out of the TPMC forum on Flourishing Small Churches was the power of doing “one thing well.” Parishes that flourished weren’t trying to run every programme or match bigger churches. Instead, they discerned one place where God was already at work, whether in elder care, youth ministry, or community meals, and invested there.

This is an excellent reminder for us as we live into our ADOW strategy.

Flourishing means discerning where God is calling us, being courageous enough to step in, and trusting God with the fruit. When we focus on doing 'the one thing well', we create space for Hari, Aroha, and Rongo, joy, love, and peace, to take root in our parishes.

Some Reflective Questions

Where are we seeing signs of growth or hope (even small ones), and how can we nurture them?

Where might God already be at work in our parish and local community, and how can we join in?

If we could only do one thing well this year, what would have the most significant impact?
