Saying farewell on the right note

On Sunday, 17 March a special celebration will be held at Waiapu Cathedral of St John the Evangelist to farewell Reverend Bill Bennett and his wife Wendy as they depart to be nearer family in Palmerston North.

In many ways, Bill captures something of the heart of Waiapu. It is the diocese in which he has served a lifetime of ministry, having celebrated his 60th year of ordination late last year. Alongside his priestly ministry, Bill has been an avid and celebrated composer and writer of music. Alongside many of the hymns known well in Waiapu, he has written several settings of choral eucharist. To celebrate Bill and Wendy's ministry, the Cathedral will sing one of these settings at their choral eucharist on 17 March. This will be both a celebration of the ministry and work of Bill, but also a declaration of the place he has in the heart of Waiapu as a worshipping community. The choral setting will also be accompanied by the singing of some of Bill's hymns as well.

The Dean, Di Woods, invites any and all to come along on the 17th to the 10am service at the Cathedral to celebrate with them in song, in thanksgiving and in joy at the ministry that has been shared.
