In a recently forged partnership between Hereworth School and the Parish of Havelock North, a new idea sprang up. Thanks to an idea by the head of Religious Studies, Mrs Leonie Lennox, and the Chaplain (and Vicar of the Parish) it was decided to approach the Retirement Village Chaplain the Revd. Sue Matthews to see whether it would be appropriate to share the ‘True Meaning’ of Christmas through a personalised Christmas card. This was welcomed with open arms by the villages that we approached through the Anglican chaplaincy. The children of Hereworth School produced 400 cards for delivery to residents of Waiapu House, Saint Luke’s Village, Sir James Wattie (Ryman), and Duart House. Pictured are the Revd Sue Matthews, Father John Matthews with the diversional therapy team at Sir James Wattie, and the Revd Sue Matthews and Dee Repko and a resident Trevor receiving a card at Waiapu House and the Rev’d Sue Matthews with Eve Walsh, the Diversional Therapist at Duart. With thanks to everyone for their partnership in this venture of sharing the true meaning of Christmas. It is hoped that a some of the residents may wish to write back to the students and become penpals.
