Farewell to Joan Edmundson

For all that has been – thanks – for all that is yet to be YES!

These were the words among so many which were delivered to farewell the Revd Joan Edmundson from Stipendiary Parish Ministry. A beautiful service in which each sector of the Central Hawkes Bay Community took part, took place on Sunday 29th October.

During the service there were acknowledgements from Parish relationships, Tikanga relationships, Civic relationships and Anglican Care Waiapu relationships. It was the mark of someone who took up a role that some thought impossible – and she did it with quiet and gentle care. Revd Joan and Andrew came to this part of the Diocese from the old region of Eastland with a wealth of experience garnered in curacy and parish ministry from the South Island. Joan has served on our Diocesan Discernment Panel, on the Standing Committee and a number of significant other panels. In each of those contexts she has been a wise counsellor and sensitive to the needs of those around her.

Joan arrived in Central Hawkes Bay a little over 5 and a half years ago, and from the beginning could be found anywhere from parangahau to Otane and beyond. It was my privilege as Archdeacon to lead the service during which the severing of the Pastoral Relationship was conducted by the Vicar General, the Revd Canon Jennifer Chalmers.

So the final word is ‘’Thank you’’ to Joan.
