“I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a foreigner, and you welcomed me.” Matt 25:35
The Bible is full of injunctions of caring for the vulnerable, the poor and the migrant. One of the vulnerable groups in New Zealand society is the seasonal migrant worker. They work hard helping our primary industries in all kinds of weather, leaving behind loved ones and the familiarity of home. In recent years, there have been well-documented cases of exploitation towards migrant workers.
The Anglican Parish of Te Puke over many years has worked with the RSE workers and provided hospitality in welcoming them in their midst. In recent times, another group of RSE workers have started to attend The Anglican Parish of Greater Hastings.
Bibles, in the RSE workers' own language, will provide spiritual food and comfort while they are away from home and will be distributed through the Anglican Parishes of Te Puke and Greater Hastings.
