E te whanau a te Karaiti / Dear friends in Christ,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of The Rev’d Ruth Dewdney as the Priest-in-Charge of the Parish of Waiapaoa starting mid-October.
Ruth is currently the Vicar of the Parish of Te Puke where she has served faithfully and effectively for over a decade.
Ruth’s ministry there has been marked by exemplary commitment to the care of the parishioners, support for a vibrant ministry to elderly people in the rest home in the parish, proactive support for the community of RSE workers in the district and ecumenical relationships with local parishes. Ruth is a priest with many years experience of ministry across our Church and has a keen understanding of the nature of a parish with a particular outlook to the rural communities.
The Parish of Te Puke will farewell Ruth from her role as Vicar there on Sunday 29 September and then Ruth will begin her two weeks of moving and settling into the Vicarage in preparation for taking up the role here. There will be a service to welcome Ruth into this parish during the week leading up to Saturday 12th October at a time to be confirmed and Ruth’s ministry will commence here on Sunday 13th October, just a week prior to the Diocesan Synod being held in Gisborne.
I know that you will come to appreciate all the gifts of ministry that God has nurtured in Ruth and I know that Ruth is looking forward to this new opportunity to serve this community of the Parish of Waipaoa.
Yours in Christ’s service
The Right Reverend Andrew Hedge
Bishop of Waiapu
