Announcement from Colleen Kaye

Further to Bishop Andrew’s notice earlier this year regarding the resignation and retirement of The Reverend Linda King as Vicar of Co-operative Parish of Whakatāne, we are pleased to announce Bishop Andrew has appointed The Reverend Philippa Hales to be Priest-in-Charge in a half stipend role. 

Philippa has been actively involved with the Whakatāne Parish since she was young from teaching Sunday School in her late teens and early twenties, being a Synod’s Rep and serving on the  Parish Council for over 20 years (mostly as a Treasurer). She is also a current member of Standing Committee. 

Currently a Priest Assistant, Philippa has gained experience over the years in all aspects of parish life. A small community choir that she runs, sings at services for the parish. Philippa looks after the parish rental properties and finds time for fundraising events like the Spring Festival.

This appointment will give some stability to parish life and also provide valuable support to the Parish Wardens and Vestry over the coming years.

Philippa will start her new role on 1 July 2025.
